The two major political parties in the forthcoming Governorship election in Ondo State are due to issue Certificate of Return to their respective candidates in Abuja today, 29th April, 2024 for the APC and Tuesday, 30th April, 2024 for the PDP.

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa led top ranking government officials and the entire APC machinery led by State Chairman, Mr Ade Adetimehin to the Akure Airport on their way to Abuja.

On the other hand, Basorun Tola Alabere, Acting State Chairman of the PDP led a high powered delegation of State Working Committee, Board of Trustee and Elders Committee members.

The list of both APC and PDP members at the Airport is too long to be captured in this short piece. Ondo State Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, Rt. Hon Victor Olabintan, Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adesuyan were seen hurrying through checking in formalities and security checks.

On the PDP side were former Deputy Governor, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, Chief Segun Adegoke, Dr. Tayo Dairo, Lady Ladia Olafunmiloye, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, MHR and many others too numerous to be mentioned.

This calibre of party dignitaries shared jokes about the chances of their parties come November this year. Interestingly, Green Africa Airline and Overland Airways aircrafts were on ground to airlift both parties to Abuja indiscriminately.

While APC’s primary election is still subject to several controversies, ranging from petitions filed by some of the aspirants, to the sack order from a High Court hanging over the neck of its National Chairman, Dr. Umar Ganduje, the PDP has been celebrated for conducting a rancour free, credible and transparent primary election.

Ade Adetimenhin in the company of Victor Olabintan jokingly asked me when l was coming over to join them, and rhetorically asked “where”?. Another drama ensued when l told a senior member of the Aiyedatiwa team that, it was not right for them to travel in the same aircraft with us, when they know that the Certificate of Return they want to go and collect in Abuja has k-leg.
