The Federal Capital Territory Administration on Monday commissioned the 15-kilometre Karu road network, completed nine months after the contract was awarded.

The development was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Rabi Musa Umar.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, commissioned the rehabilitated and expanded road network from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, including adjoining roads in Karu, Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Speaking during the commissioning, Tinubu said the project would reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel time and support economic activities along the Karu corridor.

“For years, the Karu corridor suffered from severe traffic congestion that drained the productivity and energy of residents. By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy,” the president said.

He said the project would eliminate persistent gridlock and improve movement for residents and businesses. He added that solar-powered streetlights installed along the road network would improve visibility for motorists and enhance security at night.

Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for supervising infrastructure projects across the territory.

Earlier, Wike said all road projects requested by residents of Karu had been completed. He urged residents to assess government performance based on development rather than political affiliation.

“It doesn’t matter the political party or association you belong to. When you see a good thing, you should say it is a good thing. Whether anybody hates you or not, they cannot hate this road. The opposition uses this road. This is what development is supposed to be,” Wike said.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the contract was awarded to Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited on Aug. 22, 2025, and completed within nine months.

He said the project includes about 15 kilometres of roads, drainage systems, culverts, pedestrian walkways and solar-powered streetlights.

The Managing Director of Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, Otunba Abdullahi Suleiman Bello, said the project was executed to engineering standards designed to ensure durability. He thanked the FCT Administration for the opportunity to deliver the project and appreciated residents for their patience during construction.
