The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate construction of the Kagini-Zauda-Kaba road after residents appealed for government intervention during the commissioning of the rehabilitated 16-kilometre Old Keffi Road in Abuja.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Rabi Musa Umar, on Thursday. Residents displayed banners highlighting the poor condition of the road during the event, prompting Wike to direct the contractor, Lubrik Construction Nigeria Limited, to deploy equipment to the area and commence construction. The proposed six-kilometre road will connect the communities of Kagini, Zauda and Kaba, beginning from the Outer Northern Expressway at Kagini and terminating at the Old Keffi Road in Zauda.

The directive came during the commissioning of the rehabilitated 16-kilometre Old Keffi Road, which stretches from Kado Village through Life Camp to Dei Dei Junction on the Outer Northern Expressway. President Bola Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said the administration’s infrastructure programme was delivering on its promise to complete projects across the country and proving skeptics wrong. “When we assumed office under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we told Nigerians the era of abandoned projects was over. Some doubted. Today, doubt has no ground to stand on,” the president said.

Tinubu said the Old Keffi Road had become a major challenge for motorists and residents before its rehabilitation and noted that the project would improve movement and economic activities in communities including Kado, Karmo, Gwagwa, Jiwa and Dei Dei. He also commended Wike for expanding infrastructure across the FCT and urged residents and traditional rulers to protect public infrastructure from vandalism.

Akpabio described the ongoing commissioning of projects in the FCT as evidence of increased infrastructure development and urged Nigerians to judge elected officials by their performance. “Show me your work and I will vote for you,” he said.

Wike thanked Tinubu for supporting the FCT Administration’s infrastructure programme, saying the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road fulfilled a promise made to residents and traders in the area.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, said the rehabilitation contract was awarded to Lubrik Construction Nigeria Limited in February 2025. He said the 16-kilometre road begins at the N5 arterial road near Kado Fish Market in Gwarinpa District, passes through Karmo, Tasha, Gwagwa, Jiwa and Dei Dei before connecting to the Outer Northern Expressway. According to him, the project includes a two-lane carriageway, solar streetlights and other infrastructure designed to improve traffic flow, enhance security and support commercial activities.
