Akintunde Retires From NNPC With Thanksgiving, Raises Over ₦26M For Mosque Project

Retired senior official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Alhaja Modinat Akintunde, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, celebrated her retirement after 35 years of service with a Quranic thanksgiving and a fundraising appeal that attracted donations and pledges of more than ₦26 million for the completion of the proposed NASFAT Gudu Mosque in Abuja.
The thanksgiving, organised by the Nasrul Lahi il Fatih Society (NASFAT), drew political leaders, senior government officials, Islamic scholars, family members, friends and well-wishers.

Among those in attendance were the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, serving senators, the wives of some senators who were unable to attend, senior officials of NNPC Limited, members of the NASFAT community and other dignitaries.
Chairman of NASFAT Gudu Branch, Alhaji Tajudeen Ibrahim congratulated Akintunde on her retirement and said her decision to dedicate the thanksgiving to worship and the mosque project reflected the values she demonstrated throughout her years in public service.
The programme featured Quranic recitation, goodwill messages, special prayers and an Islamic lecture delivered by the Chief Missioner of the Ansar ud Deen Society, Abuja Branch, Professor Musa Olaofe.
Olaofe urged Muslims to remain steadfast in their faith and continue serving Allah beyond retirement.
“You can retire from public service, but you cannot retire from the cause of Allah,” he said.
In her remarks, Akintunde thanked Almighty Allah for seeing her through her career and said dedicating her retirement thanksgiving to worship and the mosque project was her way of expressing gratitude for His grace throughout her years of service.
She thanked her husband, Senator Yunus Akintunde, for his encouragement and unwavering support.
“You stood by me through every stage of my career. While many people see the achievements, you know the sacrifices behind them. You constantly encouraged me to give my very best,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation to her children, relatives, colleagues, friends and members of the NASFAT community for their support over the years.
The fundraising appeal attracted donations and pledges of more than ₦26 million towards the completion of the proposed NASFAT Gudu Mosque.
The event concluded with prayers for Akintunde, her family and the nation.
