Osun Election: APC Alleges Governor Adeleke’s Plot To Arrest New NURTW Executives, Alerts Security Agencies

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Governor Ademola Adeleke is plotting to use the judiciary to orchestrate the arrest of newly inaugurated executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The opposition party, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, noted that the governor was working with some members of the Accord Party and a High Court judge to procure an order for the arrest and remand of the state chairman of the NURTW and chairmen of the union across the state’s local government areas.
According to the APC, the alleged move is aimed at intimidating the transport union leadership and creating tension in the build-up to the election.
The party claimed that the plan was linked to a court case purportedly instituted by the state government against some members of the newly sworn-in NURTW executive over what it described as “politically motivated” allegations.
The APC further alleged that instead of serving the affected persons personally with court processes, efforts were being made to obtain an order allowing substituted service as part of a broader plan to secure their arrest and detention.
The statement partly read, “Ahead of the 15th August, 2026 governorship election, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC has stumbled on concerted plans of the state Governor Ademola Adeleke to throw the state into a large scale crisis by enlisting the services of a pliable high court judge in the state to procure an order for the arrest of the state chairman and all the chairmen of the local government council areas of the newly-sworn in National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) executives in the state.
“It was reliably gathered that Governor Adeleke was laying the foundation for the arrest of the NURTW state chairman and the chairmen of the transport executives in the local government council areas across the state when he was reasserting himself as being the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the state at a rally in Osogbo on Monday.
“The leaked information has revealed a surreptitious plan by Governor Adeleke and the Accord Party to procure a warrant of arrest against some newly-inaugurated executives of the NURTW, the Osun State Chapter…
“Further investigation revealed that the matter has got two dates within a space of a week and is slated again for Thursday 6th, August, 2026 and that the plan includes a subtle blackmail against the Nigeria Police Force, President Tinubu and Minister Oyetola.
“It was also gathered that the clandestine arrangement is being made in collaboration with one pliable High Court judge in Osogbo so that the members of the executive of the NURTW in the state would be intimidated and remanded in prisons ahead of the forthcoming August, 15th 2026 governorship election.
“Information further revealed that the arrangement for hitting the newly-sworn in members of the Osun State chapter of the NURTW below the belt was arrived at in a meeting held somewhere in Osogbo yesterday(Tuesday) 4th August 2026 with the compromised High Court Judge, and certain Accord Party chieftains and members in attendance.
“We, as a party, are enjoining the Osun State Judiciary to be wary of the desperate and rejected political gladiators who are hell bent in riding roughshod on the noble and respectable calling for using the judicial officer as an instrument to victimise the real and perceived political opponents of the incumbent administration of Governor Adeleke.
“The Inspector-General of Police and the national leaderships of other statutory security services are put on notice of the need for them to double up their efforts in ensuring that the state is not avoidably turned into a theatre of war before, during and after the forthcoming governorship election. The nation’s security services should take cognizance of the inflammatory and inciting outbursts of Governor Adeleke at the Osogbo political rally on Monday where he was making an allusion to the nation’s political disturbance of 1983.”
