…Minister Says Potable Water Will Reach All Fct Satellite Towns Before 2027

Relief is coming to Karu and neighbouring communities as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has launched a 194-kilometre water pipeline project to provide residents with safe, treated water.

At the flag-off on Thursday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the project fulfils President Bola Tinubu’s promise to extend infrastructure to satellite towns, stressing that clean water is a basic health need. “You will no longer depend on boreholes and untreated water. Now you will drink water that gives you good health,” he told residents.

According to a press statement from the Minister’s office, the project, handled by China Geoengineering Construction (CGC), is scheduled for completion by June 2026. Similar water initiatives are ongoing in Bwari, with plans for Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji before 2027.

Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as “a new chapter of hope, health and prosperity,” while FCDA’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Richard Dauda, said it will also create jobs and reduce dependence on unsafe water sources.

The project is expected to serve Karu, Kurudu, Jikwoyi, Orozo and surrounding communities in Abuja Municipal Area Council.
