In a landmark event recently, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in rural Bayelsa, Governor Douye Diri today officially commissioned the newly constructed Cottage Hospital in Tein Biseni, Yenagoa Local Government Area. Accompanied by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo; the Chairman of Yenagoa LGA, Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari; and other senior government officials,
The Governor was warmly welcomed by the community,. In his welcome address, Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for prioritizing healthcare despite his demanding schedule. He noted that the old facility, originally built in 1966, had deteriorated beyond repair due to age and repeated flood damage. The decision to rebuild was driven by compassion for the people and support from the Deputy Governor. Hon. Ndiwari revealed that the new hospital’s foundation was laid on December 11, 2024, and completed by April 2025. The facility boasts a male ward, female ward, pediatric ward, a fully equipped operating theatre, a delivery room, and a pharmacy — a significant upgrade from the previous structure.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the Governor for further development in Biseni, including a link to the Adibawa gas flow station for stable electricity, resolution of a lingering kingship dispute, and construction of the Zarama-Biseni road. Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, lauded Governor Diri’s people-focused leadership and affirmed the hospital as a testament to his administration’s commitment to quality healthcare. He also called for the hospital’s status to be officially upgraded from a PHC to a Cottage Hospital.
Governor Diri, in his response, praised Hon. Ndiwari for a job well done, describing the project as a fulfillment of promise and a reflection of effective local governance. He immediately approved the upgrade of the facility to a Cottage Hospital and pledged to address the other requests made by the community, including efforts to resolve the kingship tussle and collaborate with partners for the Zarama-Biseni road project. With these commitments, the Governor officially declared the hospital open, marking a new chapter for healthcare access in Biseni and neighboring communities.
