The immediate past First Lady of Osun State, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, has rescued a 36-year-old Osun indigene, Titilayo Oluwaseun, who was stranded in Cairo, Egypt, after allegedly being stripped of her international passport and forced into hard labour.

‎Titilayo had earlier raised the alarm in a viral video message, appealing to the Nigerian government for intervention. She alleged that the individual who facilitated her travel to Egypt seized her passport and subjected her to harsh working conditions.

‎Following the distress call, Mrs Oyetola, who is also the wife of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, intervened and ensured the retrieval of Titilayo’s passport, as well as the arrangement of her return flight to Nigeria.

‎Titilayo arrived in the country on Sunday and was received by the Executive Director, Project Implementation, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Engr Remi Omowaiye.

‎Addressing journalists after her arrival, Omowaiye disclosed that the rescue was facilitated by Mrs Oyetola, whom he described as a consistent advocate for the welfare and protection of women and children, both in and out of government.

‎“When the wife of the minister heard about the predicament of Titilayo, she mobilised her foundation, the Ileri-Oluwa Women and Children Support Initiative, to investigate the matter and reach out to her in Cairo through Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM). It was established that Titilayo wanted to return to Nigeria,” he said.

‎“We secured her passport and also arranged the flight ticket that brought her back to Nigeria. Finally, she is back in the country, Mrs Oyetola is also working on helping more of the stranded ladies in Egypt.”

‎Omowaiye cautioned Nigerians to thoroughly verify individuals offering overseas travel opportunities, to avoid falling into the hands of those who may force them into hard labour or prostitution.
