SECURITY: YMDF Urges Governor Diri To Overhaul His Security Apparatus

Yenagoa Metropolitan Development foundation, (YMDF) a socio-cultural development forum, in advocating credible leadership has bemoaned the persistent failure of security agencies in Bayelsa State, especially in Yenagoa Metropolis.

Director research and security affairs, Chief Loveday Johnson, on behalf of the group made the revelation while fielding questions from newsmen in Yenagoa.

The right group stressed emphatically that Bayelsans cannot sleep with their two eyes closed at night due to persistent killings, maiming of defenseless citizens, noting that for the past one month, almost every week several persons have been killed as a result of cult related clashes and armed robbery cases, especially, In back of St. Peter Church, Obele Street, Swali, Amarata and other parts of the state.

While appealing to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri to overhaul his security apparatus, notably, community safety corps, Bayelsa State vigilante, and operation Doo-Akpo, the Leadership need changes and moreso, recruit more personnels in the security of lives and property. Also, urging the Nigerian Police and other security agencies should collaborate to curtail the menace.

It is so sad that many Bayelsans are now relocating to their villages for fear of uncertainty, young boys are now carrying dangerous arms and ammunition moving opening in the day time, stealing peoples of their hard earned money, breaking stores, firing guns indiscriminately in frightening residents. This have made many business owners relocating to others states “enough is enough of this senseless killings”, while appealing to parents, caregivers to advice their children in this deadly scenarios, moreso, urging youths to venture into meaningful ways of life.

The group equally tasks the commissioner of police in Bayelsa State CP Idu Francis to establish mini police posts in crime prune areas for effective policing now that elections are around the corner, so Johnson added.
