Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has urged Rivers State residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and vote for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in legislative elections, arguing that continued support for the administration would help sustain its economic reforms.

According to a statement released by the FCT minister’s media office, Wike made the appeal at a Rainbow Coalition town hall meeting in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, attended by supporters, traditional rulers and political stakeholders.

Wike defended Tinubu’s economic policies, saying the reforms were necessary to address the country’s economic challenges when the president took office in 2023. He recalled urging Rivers residents to support Tinubu at the time, despite concerns about the hardship associated with the policies.

He also criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his repeated presidential bids and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi over his public engagements. Wike challenged former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi to account for his administration’s record between 2007 and 2015, questioning how state resources were managed during his tenure.

Wike urged voters to support APC candidates for the National Assembly and state legislature, arguing that cooperation between the executive and lawmakers was important to implementing Tinubu’s policies. He called on party leaders and grassroots organisers to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier, at the palace of the Oba of Ogba Land, Nwachukwu Obuoha-Obi III, in Omoku, Wike appealed to traditional rulers to support Tinubu’s re-election. He said political decisions affected the welfare, infrastructure and development of their communities, despite the expectation that traditional rulers remain non-partisan.

Obuoha-Obi expressed support for Tinubu, while Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Chairman Chukwu Shedrack pledged to mobilise voters for the APC across elective positions. Shedrack cited road construction, hospital upgrades and human capital development among projects associated with Wike’s tenure as Rivers State governor.

Wike called for increased grassroots mobilisation and referred to January 16, 2027, in his remarks. The date is scheduled for the presidential and National Assembly elections, according to the revised timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
