Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume has dedicated his Christian Icon Award to Nigerians who serve their communities and country without public recognition.

According to a statement issued by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Akume received the award on Saturday at the National Christian Centre in Abuja during the Christian Association of Nigeria’s 50th anniversary celebration.

Akume said the award recognised values that have guided his public service, including faith, integrity, compassion and sacrifice. He accepted the honour on behalf of his family, colleagues, associates and Nigerians he had served.

Reflecting on CAN’s 50 years of activities, he said the association had contributed to promoting faith, peace, unity, moral values and national cohesion within Nigeria’s Christian community.

He said religious institutions had a responsibility to promote tolerance, compassion and responsible citizenship, particularly as the country faces complex challenges.

Akume said his Christian faith had shaped his view of leadership as a responsibility that requires sacrifice rather than an opportunity for personal privilege or gain.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and contributing to efforts to build a more prosperous, peaceful and united Nigeria.

The SGF also dedicated the award to young Nigerians, whose energy and creativity he said were important to the country’s future.

He congratulated CAN on its golden jubilee and expressed hope that the association would continue to contribute to peace, stability and national development.

Akume said the award would encourage him to serve with greater diligence and humility. He concluded by praying for unity, peace, justice and prosperity in Nigeria.
