Nigeria’s aviation sector must urgently strengthen professional certification, regulatory compliance and continuous training to remain globally competitive, industry stakeholders said on Monday.
The position emerged at a special induction and workshop hosted by the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA), at the institution’s permanent site.
Speaking at the event, the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila Adamu, said sustained capacity building and adherence to standards are critical to the sector’s growth, warning that lapses could undermine Nigeria’s standing in the global aviation space.
The workshop, themed “Sustainable Aviation Development and the Role of Professional Certification,” drew participants from across the transport and aviation sectors and featured a panel discussion following the keynote presentation.
The President and Chairman of Council of CIoTA, Prince Segun Obayendo, represented by Mazi Philip Okoronkwo, said the institute would continue to promote professionalism and high standards in transport administration.
In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of AAAU, Dr. Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi, said the university is committed to advancing aviation education, research and collaboration with industry stakeholders.
A highlight of the event was the conferment of an Honorary Fellowship of CIoTA on Abdullahi, alongside the induction of new members into the institute.
The event ended with the presentation of awards and a vote of thanks by the Acting Librarian of AAAU, Dr. Dorcas Ibinaye, as participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration and aligning with global best practices in sustainable aviation and transport systems.
