Akume Pushes Grassroots Reform Messaging As CEOs Set 2027 Mobilisation Target

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, has urged chief executive officers of federal parastatals to take information about the government’s economic reforms to the grassroots, saying stronger communication was needed to counter what he described as disinformation.
Akume made the call on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, in Abuja, while receiving a delegation of the Forum of CEOs of Federal Parastatals led by its Convener and Chairman, Dr. Kazeem Kolawale Raji, who is also chief executive officer of the National Board for Technology Incubation. The meeting was disclosed in a statement signed by Chris Ugwuegbulam, Head, Information and Public Relations Department, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Represented by Bekearedebo Augusta Warrens, Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Akume urged the CEOs to use their respective areas of responsibility to explain government policies and reported achievements to citizens. “Push this message down to the grassroots,” Akume said, adding that the reforms were not intended to “imprison or impoverish Nigerians.”
Akume also assured the forum of continued institutional support from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and called for a structured framework for collaboration and information sharing. He said regular communication between the forum and the OSGF would help track its objectives and initiatives.
Raji, who led the delegation, conferred patron status on Akume and said the forum planned to mobilise 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election. He said the proposed mobilisation would be based on lawful, ethical, peaceful and issue-based grassroots engagement through professional and community networks associated with federal agencies.
Raji said another objective of the forum was to bridge the communication gap between government policies and the public by ensuring that information on the administration’s reforms, achievements and reported outcomes was accurately documented and communicated. The Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Chidiebere John Ezeamama, called for a communication network between the forum and the OSGF to facilitate timely reporting of its activities.
Ezeamama also proposed a centralised digital platform for real-time information sharing, inter-agency coordination and tracking of developmental activities. The statement said the platform would support communication between the forum and the OSGF and provide a mechanism for documenting its activities and progress.
