Akume To Farmers: We’ll Table Your Requests Before Tinubu
Dr. Nafisat Makinde, Abuja
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, has pledged Federal Government support to the Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN), promising to present their demands directly to President Bola Tinubu.
Akume gave the assurance on Thursday, September 11, when a delegation of the association led by its National President, Alhaji Haruna Ahmad Pambegua, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
“The Association needs support to enable it to do more in boosting food production, and I assure you that I will table your request before the President for the needed support,” the SGF said.
He commended AFGSAN for its contributions to national food supply and highlighted ongoing government investments in agriculture. “The present administration is doing a lot in revolutionising agriculture through mechanised farming as new tractors and trucks were imported, dams and roads were constructed across the country,” he added.
Akume also urged the association to help publicise what he described as an ongoing “agricultural revolution.”
Responding, Pambegua praised the Tinubu administration’s policies, which he said had “transformed the lives of average Nigerians positively.” He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting government programmes but called for practical assistance.
“We are asking for tractors, fertilisers, and farm implements to be allocated to our members at subsidised rates so that we can boost production, supply, and delivery of farm produce across the country,” the AFGSAN president said.
The meeting underscored government efforts to deepen partnerships with farmers’ groups as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, with officials insisting such collaboration is vital to achieving sustainable food security nationwide.
