The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will begin the commissioning of more than 30 infrastructure projects across Abuja next week, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Office of the FCT Minister.
The statement, signed by Deputy Director of Press, Rabi Musa Umar, said Minister Nyesom Wike confirmed the readiness of the projects after inspecting several sites slated for inauguration and declared them fully completed.
Projects inspected include the Gwarinpa-Jahi Interchange, the Airport-Kuje Road, the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road, the Outer Southern Expressway main carriageways and the remodeled Abuja City Gate.
“We are set to go. From what we have seen, all the projects we inspected are one hundred per cent ready,” the minister was quoted as saying.
Wike also disclosed that the number of new projects to be flagged off during the commissioning period could increase from the two earlier announced to at least four.
According to the statement, the Presidency will determine which projects President Bola Tinubu will personally commission, while other senior government officials are expected to participate in the inauguration exercise.
The minister further stated that newly constructed police stations across the six Area Councils and renovated public schools are among projects awaiting commissioning. He added that some of those inaugurations could be delegated to Mandate Secretaries of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The statement also said the remodeled Abuja City Gate may be inaugurated at night to allow residents and visitors to better appreciate its redesigned features.
Wike also responded to questions on political developments in Rivers State and recent security concerns in Oyo State.
Responding to a question on reports of the alleged removal of candidates associated with a political coalition in Rivers State, the minister urged stakeholders to await the publication of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission before drawing conclusions.
“In July, the candidates of the parties will be published by INEC. Let us wait till July,” he said.
Asked about the recent abductions in Oyo State, Wike condemned the kidnapping of citizens and cautioned against politicising security challenges.
He said incidents of abduction should be treated as a matter of concern regardless of the profession or location of the victims and stressed that criminal acts should not be exploited for political purposes.
