A nongovernmental organization, Citizens Action for Good Governance, CAGG, Friday, condemned call by a group for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation following alleged national issues published on an online media organisation.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Coordinator, CAGG, Nasir Galadanchi, where the NGO described the call as unfortunate and baseless.
According to the statement the purported call of Buhari to resign was borne out of sheer bitterness against the President for no reason, and said the group was sponsored to overheat the polity and are not in the interest of Nigerians.
The statement reads in part, “It is really unfortunate to see some group of persons uttering unguarded words that are really for the garbage without conscience to malign and cast aspersions on the person and office of President Muhammadu Buhari over what they cannot substantiate because of the bitterness they carry in their minds against the President for no reason.
“We in Citizens Action for Good Governance, CAGG, want to state unequivocally state that this sponsored group of people is not for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians, they are out to overheat the polity for no reasons.
“We want to at this point condemn the statement of a group who went on a medium online to call for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari and to embark on strike on October 1, 2020.
“This is baseless and should not be taken serious at any level because they are out for themselves because vast majority of Nigerians have faith in President Muhammadu Buhari and his policies because they see them as panacea to their problems. He has given Nigerians a say in their hard earned democracy.
“We want Nigerians not to be swayed by people who does not mean well for them. We also advise that we should be patient with these policies and enjoy the benefits in no distant time.”
The statement also explained that, “Now on the issue of increasing electricity tariff and pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, we want to say this is not done intentionally to plunge Nigerians into hardship as claimed and exaggerated by some people who don’t understand how market forces works.
“This action by the government is done for the country to be positioned on the path of prosperity and development, and it I for all hands to be on deck so the long time lingering issues are tackled and solved to an appreciable level.
“We are also Nigerians and feel the way other do but we need to understand that nothing good comes easy but it is for a period of time that will soon make every Nigerian laugh and we all be proud of our country.”
According to the statement the Buhari-led administration has made appreciable impact since it took over governance in 2015 in various sectors of the economy that have transformed lives of Nigerians.
“We want Nigerians to know that the Buhari-led administration has been on the side of the people. We are saying this from our independent assessment on the performance of the Buhari-led administration because we know the economy of Nigeria was fast sinking low that under the government of Buhari’s predecessor which the former Minister of Finance under his administration warned that the country is heading for recession.
“The Buhari administration has fought corruption to a level that there is appreciable level of decency in both public and private sectors. The recent reversal of the award to Process and Industrial Development, P&ID USD 6.6 billion in damages plus interest of 7% per year by a court in Britain.
“Nigeria’s railway sector is now operating and competing with its counterparts in terms of infrastructure and mode of operations including delivery of new and modern coaches.
“We want Nigerians to understand that this administration is the most people friendly administration, which has initiated carious social investment programmes for the masses at all levels including the school feeding programme, trader-moni, N-Power, and others.
This government has also increased the minimum wage of civil servants. It has also carried out a lot of re-oganisation and reforms in the public service including capacity building.
“On agriculture the government has carved a niche for itself with the various policies and programmes in the sector, which a lot of peasant farmers have been transformed into millionaires.
“The various executive orders have also helped to fast-track economic growth and development. There is also access to loans by small and medium scale enterprises, and many other efforts being made to add value to the lives of Nigerians.
“Massive infrastructural developmental projects going on across the country, which most of them are at various stages of completion.
“With the frantic effort by this government to combat spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, the government in collaboration with the private sector was able to contain the spread of the pandemic which today we are experiencing sharp decline of cases.
“The issue of security has been the focal point of this administration. In the history of this government there has never been a time an administration committed itself to safeguard the lives of Nigerians.
“The government has never rested or relaxed her to fight insurgency, banditry, kidnappers and other criminal elements. We are saying the result in a positive way. We want to state that Nigerians should not be cajoled by sentimental persons who don’t mean well for them but should understand that this government is for them”, it added.
