Dr Felix Kehinde (DFK), PDP House of Representatives candidate for Ondo East/West Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, has said that the current state of Nigeria seems to neglect its young population.
The PDP candidate made the remarks in a press statement to commemorate the 2022 International Youth Day on Friday. He said the country is not prioritizing the welfare of its teeming population and they “deserve to be angry”
According to him, “The current state of Nigeria seem to be at war with Young people, unemployment for people between the age of 15 to 24 sits at 53 percent. The people between age 25 to 34 have an unemployment rate or 37 percent which is not any better.
“University students have been at home for over six months and yet we often complain that crime is on the increase. It is not a real surprise that the number of fraudsters, cultists and those who engage in other vices are on the rise. The idle hands we have created have become the devil’s workshop”.
Kehinde, a UK-based medical specialist who has worked both within and outside Nigeria is a grassroots politician, philanthropist, community leader and the frontrunner in the 2023 national assembly elections. He was educated at the University of Ibadan (UI) and trained at both University of Manchester and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
He said that the system that gave his generation the opportunity to excel is no longer in place and may affect the future of the country.
“One of my most interesting observations since I have put myself forward for office is realising that the path that gave me a fighting chance to become what I am today is no longer available to many young people in our communities.
“I am often exasperated when people of my age wonder why there seems to be a lot of anger among the youths. Some of us are completely out of touch with their reality and wonder why the energy being shown now against established political elites. It is because the Nigerian system has failed them” Kehinde reiterated.
He stated that at the heart of his agenda for Ondo kingdom is youth development in line global trend which he said “some can be achieved through policies with like-minded colleagues and others through direct collaboration and networking.
