The President, Muhammadu Buhari has ask the Pro Chancellor/Chairman, University of Lagos (Unilag) Governing Council, Dr. Wale Babalakin and Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe to recuse themselves from official duties of the university pending the outcome of the special visitation panel.

Recall Ogundipe was sacked by Babalakin’s Governing Council on August 12, as Vice-Chancellor of the institution for alleged financial misappropriation and misconduct but Ogundipe rejected the verdict of the council, insisting he remains the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Babalakin’s activities generated lot of reactions with the University’s Senate, Alumni and labour unions condemning the action of the council and throwing their weight behind Ogundipe. They said the removal process was illegal and void.

President Buhari ordered the University Senate to reconvene to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor while the panel are to submit their reports in two weeks.
