Opposition Kicks, Says Buhari Wants To Empower Akeredolu For Election

Buhari’s Request Not For Akeredolu’s Re-Election – Ondo APC

Daily Metro News NG

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the National Assembly to approve the refund of N148 billion to Ondo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Osun and Rivers States for federal road projects the five states executed.

The president made this known in a letter sent to the speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, which was read on the floor of the house on Tuesday.

The breakdown of the refund shows that Ondo State, whose governorship election will hold next weekend will receive N7 billion.

Recall that Senate also approved N10 billion to Kogi State government, three days to its governorship election last year.

The approval was criticised by opposition lawmakers who asked that the approval be delayed untill after the election.

They were, however, outvoted by majority of APC senators.

President Buhari’s letter has also caused uproar and mixed reactions from the opposition, they opined that PMB only want to empower incumbent governor, Akeredolu, ahead of next Saturday’s election.

But some APC Stewarts in the state said the fund has nothing to do with Akeredolu’s reelection as the people of Ondo state had settled for Akeredolu owing to his performance since he assumed office in 2016.
