The Nigerian Medical Mission for the 2026 Hajj has intensified sensitisation campaigns on heat-related illnesses in Makkah.

Speaking on the ongoing Hajj exercise, the Head of the Medical Mission, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar, alongside the Head of Public Health, Professor Lawal Amadu, advised pilgrims to avoid unnecessary movements and exposure to the sun during peak heat periods, especially between 12 noon and 3:30 pm.

They urged pilgrims to remain indoors or within the Haram premises whenever possible, while those going out were advised to use umbrellas and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

The officials also stressed the importance of adequate hydration, encouraging pilgrims to drink plenty of fluids regularly to prevent dehydration and heat stroke.

According to the Abubakar, the sensitisation exercise remains continuous throughout the Hajj period to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
